Common questions
Straight answers, in plain English.
What is over 50s life cover?+
It's a simple life insurance plan that pays out a fixed cash sum to your loved ones when you pass away. People often use it to help with funeral costs, clear a small debt, or leave a little something behind. As long as you keep up the monthly payments, you're covered for life.
Am I guaranteed to be accepted?+
Yes — for UK residents aged 50 to 80 there are no medicals and no health questions, so you can't be turned down. Acceptance is subject to the provider's eligibility criteria.
Will my payments ever go up?+
No. Your monthly premium is fixed when your plan starts and stays the same for life, so it's easy to budget for.
Is there a waiting period?+
Most plans have an initial period (typically the first 12 months). If you were to pass away from natural causes during that time, the plan usually returns the premiums you've paid rather than the full cash sum. Cover for accidental death normally applies from day one. We'll point out exactly how this works on any plan we show you.
Could I pay in more than the payout?+
Depending on how long you live and keep paying, it's possible to pay in more than the cash sum that's paid out. It's an important thing to weigh up, and we'll always be upfront about it.
What happens if I stop paying?+
If you stop your monthly payments the cover will normally end and it has no cash-in value, so you could be left with nothing. If money ever gets tight, talk to us or the provider before cancelling — there may be options.
Do you give advice?+
We provide information to help you understand your options and compare plans from providers such as National Friendly and OneFamily. We don't give personal advice or a recommendation — the choice is yours, and we're here to answer questions along the way.
